  • Q. Can the ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module save fuel?
    A. ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Moduledevelops more torque through the engine rev range, particularly in the low to mid range. This allows the driver to change gear more quickly even with an automatic so as a higher gear is achieved giving better fuel economy.
    Naturally aggressive driving techniques can also contribute to higher fuel consumption if the additional performance is used consistently, as in any vehicle.
  • Q. How does the Diesel Performance Tuning Module work?

    A. We are not going to hand over our trade secrets, however ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Modules are specifically designed and tested to achieve enhanced performance by modifying the electronic diesel fuel injection parameter mappings. It is through careful interplay of these parameter values and characteristics that optimum performance of your engine can be achieved. One of the reasons this optimisation is required is manufacturing variances and varing fuel qualities across the country, across the world. Vehicle manufacturers wish to produce one version of a vehicle for worldwide distribution. This means they must choose the lowest common denominators, and for go some performance gains.
    Dynamic changes to parameters enhances the electronic diesel fuel injection system. A number of engine parameters are modified, depending on the specifc engine and its operating condition. Usually these will include a number of aspects, including fuel injection timimg and volume.
    The turbo boost pressure is not altered by our modules. Increases in boost can cause ECU error codes if not managed carefully. Our modules permit the orignal ECU to handle all of its error and sanity checks.
  • Q. Will the Diesel Tuning Module provide false sensor information to the ECU?

    A. Since the ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module is usually installed downstream of the vehicle ECU it can not provide false sensor settings to the vehicle ECU, which could cause fault conditions to be registered. ECU error conditions can cause the ECU to go into 'limp home' mode - with drastically reduced performance.
    The ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module has a self check routine to confirm full functionality. In the event of an error condition the ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module will revert to the vehicle factory ECU settings.
  • Q. What if I want more power than the Diesel Tuning Module standard settings?

    A. The  ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module can be adjusted, if required  to enhance performance modifications such as a larger intercooler or free flowing exhaust systems. Advanced computer programming can also be performed for extremes such as off-road racing etc. We only recommend these advanced settings when combined with additional engine modifications, and with consultation of your ENG-TEK authorised fitter. The limiting factor to producing vastly more power is the reliability of your engine.
  • Q. How easy is the Diesel Tuning Module to adjust?

    A. The ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module can be adjusted using 10 pre-programmed configurations. These cover vast majority of requirements, including larger intercoolers and exhaust systems. The ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module will not need any adjustment.
  • Q. Do I need a dyno test?

    A. No, Unlike some other devices, the ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module is pre-programmed to suit your vehicle.  This saves you both dyno time and associated expenses - for other modifications.
  • Q. Will it make my vehicle smoke?

    A. No. When set correctly ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module will produce no smoke under driving conditions. If your vehicle does smoke to start, then it may clean the smoke up due to the ability of the Diesel Performance Tuning Module to optimise settings!

    A. ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module is the amongst the advanced product in the market place.     As a supplementary module the Diesel Performance Tuning Module is quick and easy to install. The installation of 'chip' replacement in the ECU involves dispatching your ECU for installation of the associated chips, along with potential damage resulting form incorrect removal and replacement of miniature surface mount components.
    The Diesel Performance Tuning Module can be removed, and re-installed on another similar diesel engine, protecting your investment when you change vehicles.
  • Q. Why don't manufactures provide the extra power?

    A. The answer comes down to production and development costs. When the original vehicle manufacturer receives the engine management software for a new production vehicle, the electronics are programmed in bulk to suit 'sample' engines of specific manufacturing tolerances, and not to maximise the performance of each individual engine. Treating each engine to an optimum and individual adjustment would increase production costs for the manufacturer. These costs would be passed onto the end buyer, with several pricing mark-ups along the way.
    Manufacturing tolerances are one of the reasons why two supposedly identical vehicles will perform differently under the same conditions. ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module permits adjustments to suit your specific vehicle, should you need to obtain absolute maximum power.
  • Q. Will the Diesel Tuning Module void my warranty?

    A. No. However, like anything not standard on a vehicle (eg.bullbar, non standard tyres or snorkel) in the event of a warranty claim it may become an arguable point. Remember, the ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module does not interfere with the engines error detection or operational safety systems, and it can be removed quickly by the owner, returning the vehicle to standard power levels.
  • Q. How long does the ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module take to fit?

    A. Depending on the application, some ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module can be installed in as little 15-20 minutes by simply plugging in; while those vehicles requiring a wire-in Diesel Tuning Module harness may take about an hour. Once installed ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module can be removed in a few minutes.
  • Q. Will giving my vehicle more power achieve better fuel results?

    A. ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module provides both more torque and more power. Torque comes on earlier and lasts throughout the rev range. This allows gear down changes less often resulting in lower engine revs for longer allowing better fuel efficiency. Depending on driving style you can achieve up to 10% better fuel economy.     A. ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module comes with a 3 year product warranty against manufacturing defects.
  • Q. How long does the warranty cover the vehicle?

    A. Unfortunately, ENG-TEK and our fitters have no way of accurately determining the condition of your engine prior to installation of the ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module.
  • Q. Does the Diesel Performance Tuning Module need any maintenance?

    A. ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module does not require any maintenance or adjustments.
  • Q. Should I fit a High Flow Air Filter?

    A. While some aftermarket filters may improve air flow, they may also permit ingress of dust into the engine. ENG-TEK do not recommend fitting anything other than standard filters, particularly for 4WD use. Oiled type air filters are discouraged, as the turbo will suck the oil from the filter, which will then permit larger dirt particles to be consumed by the engine. This will shorten engine life..
  • Q. Will I achieve the figures that are published?

    A. Our published figures are on the conservative side, as we prefer err on the side of reliability, rather than out right power at the expense of reliability as some other products do . Since each and every vehicle is slightly different, the actual results will vary from vehicle to vehicle. In cases the results after fitting a ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module tend to be more than published figures.
  • Q. Is there a Diesel Tuning Module available for my mechanically injected vehicle?

    A.Unfortunately the ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module is only suitable for Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) diesel engines. In Australia the change to electronically controlled diesel engines began from about the year 2000. The change started a couple of years earlier in Europe. USA has just began the process, as a result of new emissions laws.
    If you have a mechanically injected diesel engine, it will probably benefit from a manual 'tune-up' of the injection system, and up to 15% increase may be gained via optimisation. The Nissan TD42 & TD42T, as well as Toyota 1HZ & 3L / 5L engines are some examples of common mechanically injected diesel engines. Our performance exhaust systems will also assist in generating more power for all diesel engines.

    Q. What is Common Rail Diesel Injection?

    A.. Common Rail technology is one of the simplest forms of delivering high pressure (30,000+ PSI in some cases) fuel into a diesel engine. Each injector receives fuel from a common point at constant high pressure delivering highly atomised and efficient burning diesel fuel. There is a ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module available for most Common Rail engines.
  • Q. What is Unit Injection?

    A.. Unit Injection commonly found on most VW, Landrover TD5 and heavy duty diesel engines, is a new system developed by Bosch. Bosch have called it Pump Deuse, it is a single unit injection system (each injector has it own fuel pump built in). It is another very accurate and efficient method of diesel fuel delivery. There is a ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module available for VW and LandRover TD5 engines with (PD) Unit Injection systems.
  • Q. How can I improve my fuel economy?

    A. ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module and FITCH fuel catalyst individually and in combination ensure that you have additional potential to save on fuel costs.
  • Q. What OBD-II Protocol does my vehicle use? ?

    A. No, I cannot. The network(s) that may be found in a specific vehicle vary widely depending on manufacturer, model, and year. I do not try to track that kind of information. It would be a monumental task and not worth it to me.

    As a rule of thumb, GM cars and light trucks use SAE J1850 VPW (Variable Pulse Width Modulation). All European and most Asian imports, and some Chrysler use ISO 9141 circuitry (early Daewoo is an exception - it uses PWM). Fords and some Chryslers use SAE J1850 PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) communication patterns.

    OBD-II was mandated commencing in 1996 in the USA and 2000 in Europe and most other parts of the world. You can tell which protocol is used by examining the OBD II connector:

    J1850 VPW - The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 2, 4, 5, and 16, but not 10.
    ISO 9141-2 - The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 4, 5, 7, 15 (optional), and 16.
    J1850 PWM -The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 2, 4, 5, 10, and 16.
    J2284 CAN - The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 4, 5, 6, 14 and 16.
    KWP2000 - see ISO 9141-2

    ALDL - Holden / GM / GMH vehicles with pin 9 PLUS any others is NOT OBDII compliant - you need our ALDL interface

    If your vehicle has this style connector, but doesn't have these pins populated, you probably have a pre-OBDII vehicle. All other pins are available for the manufacturer to use as they wish.

    To add some confusion, even having the connector with the contacts shown above is not a guarantee of OBD II compliance. This style connector has been seen on some OBD II compliant vehicles. The 3.8L VR - VT Commodore by Holden is an example. It is ALDL using OBD-II connector.

  • Q. Where is the OBD-II connector located my vehicle?

    A. The OBD-II connector can be located in one of ten locations according the the standard.

    The locations of preference commence at 1 and ascend to 10. Location one being the first preference, then location two, then location three ..... etc.  The last location is anywhere else.

    Sometimes the actual connector could be located in a fuse box, behind the ashtray or other places in the designated area, and may even have its own protective cover over the connector contacts.  Sometimes this may even be in the engine bay, using a non-standard connector as was the case with some BMW, VW, Audi, and Rolls Royce cars.
